Embedding
The purpose of embedding a sample in a resin is:
- During manual polishing: to facilitate the grip on the sample
- During automatic polishing: to gather a number of samples in a sample holder under optimum tightening conditions.
During the polishing step, the embedding makes it possible to limit the edge effects. The choice of a resin suited to the hardness of the material to be polished will make the verification of the sample’s periphery possible.
Various resins are available:
- Cold resins for fast operation
- Hot resins for minimum shrinkage
Cold resins series 600
601.2 Resin Single component transparent resin, very fluid, with low shrinkage with MM 807 blue light device |
605 Resin Methylmethacrylate resin, polymerised very quickly, stands up to the main forms of chemical attacks. Used with the MM 806 machine |
607-2 Resin Modified polyester resin, shrinkage of below 0.2%, ideal for very hard materials. Used with the MM 806 machine |
609 Resin Methylmethacrylate resin, transparent, it is ideal for high precision parts. Used with the MM 806 machine |
Machine for cold embedding
With the MM 806 pressure device

Hot resins
602 and 622 resins A green phenolic resin with organic and mineral fillers, used for embedding all materials before a current checking. |
Resin 632 Black charged phenolic resin charged with fibreglass, it has a good resistance to abrasion and very little shrinkage, this resin is perfectly adapted to the embedding of hard and semi-hard materials. |
Resin 633 Black epoxy resin charged with fibreglass with a high quantity of organic fillers. The extreme hardness and the absence of shrinking of this resin make it ideal for embeddings intended for edge checking. |
Resin 616 Transparent acrylic resin mainly used in order to visualise progress at the sample's pre-polishing stage. It can be used for all materials. |
Resin 604.3 Copper resinous The sophisticated production technique for this pure copper based resin permits the optimisation of the conductivity of your embedding. The electric energy is brought to your material without difficulty. The use of ultra pure constituents removes any risk of error in the analysis of your materials. |
